Paul McCartney concert and Independence Square in Kiev Ukraine June 23, 2008
The first couple of pictures are from the day before when the stage was being set up, lights testing, and sound testing.
This is an underground mall that is under Independence Square.
This whole building must belong to McDonald’s
Another gambling spot
Here we are at the concert getting totally drenched. What a bummer. The show started an hour late and the rain let up a bit but the damage had already been done. We should have brought an umbrella like everyone else.
Heading home on the subway
Lviv Ukraine to Kiev Ukraine by night train June 21, 2008
The train station in Lviv was really nice.
Internet!!! (I think)
Inside the train car
This was my train ticket which was hard to read.
This was my package of linens for my bunk. Each person received a package of sheets, a blanket and a comforter along with a pillow and case. Maximum comfort!!!
Arriving at the station in Kiev.
Slava Ukraïni! Eating at Kryïvka June 21, 2008
Off the main square in Lviv there is a small entrance way with a unmarked large wooden door. We walked up to the door and knocked. A small slit was opened and we were asked for the password. Slava Ukraïni! (honor to Ukraine) we said and the door was opened. We were greeted by a large man with some kind of old automatic gun and a full army outfit. He handed us each a shot of some sort of liquor and we again offered honor to Ukraine and then took the shot. After that the army host pulled back a bookshelf and we went down the steps to an underground restaurant decorated with the theme of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Gene and I each got large local beers and then ordered a local dish that was a bowl of potatoes and sausage with cheese melted on top. After the meal we got a chance to pose with some old guns that were typical of the UPA.
