I personally liked Lisbon better because of the easy going atmosphere and comfortable weather. Madrid wasn’t bad but it was really hot in June when I was there so that didn’t help my perception of the place. I got a chance to go into the mountains north of Madrid which are part of the Sierra range. They are worth checking out, I will have pictures up of them soon.
